Terms of Service
Last updated: 2026-07-20. These Terms govern your use of thegeul — the Geul (long-form writing) and Haru (diary) writing rooms at thegeul.com. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms.
1. The service
thegeul provides two writing tools under one account: Geul, a long-form writing studio with an AI companion (Munu), and Haru, an AI-assisted diary (with Siwoo). Features include editing, plot boards, mood analysis, export to PDF/EPUB, and optional cloud sync.
2. Accounts
Accounts are authenticated through Supabase — email/password or social sign-in (Google, Apple, Kakao, or X; availability may vary by region). You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure. You must provide accurate information and may not share an account in ways that circumvent plan limits.
3. Local-first storage
Your writing is stored on your device first (in your browser's local database). Cloud sync is optional: content is uploaded to our servers only when you sign in and sync. If you clear your browser storage without syncing or exporting, locally stored content may be lost — we cannot recover it.
4. AI features and API keys
AI features send the content you choose to process (e.g., a chapter, a diary entry, a selection) to the AI provider you select (such as Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google). Their terms and privacy policies apply to that processing. thegeul does not use your writing to train AI models.
Bring-your-own-key (BYOK): API keys you enter are stored locally on your device and are never stored on our servers. Calls made with your key are billed by the provider under your own agreement with them. Managed AI: paid plans may include AI credits; usage is metered and deducted from your credit balance.
5. Payments — Paddle as merchant of record
Paid plans and purchases are processed by Paddle.com, our merchant of record. Paddle handles checkout, billing, taxes (VAT/GST), invoices, and refunds under Paddle's terms and our Refund Policy (see /refunds). Prices shown may vary by country due to taxes and currency.
6. Your content, your ownership
You own 100% of what you write. thegeul claims no rights over your manuscripts, diaries, or notes. We only process your content as needed to operate the service (storage, sync, export, and AI features you invoke).
7. Acceptable use
Do not use the service to violate the law, infringe others' rights, attempt to breach security, or abuse AI features (e.g., resale of credits, automated scraping). We may suspend accounts that violate these rules.
8. Data deletion and export
You can export your content at any time (Markdown ZIP, PDF, EPUB). You can delete synced data or request account deletion, which removes your synced content from our servers. Local copies on your devices remain under your control.
9. Disclaimers and liability
The service is provided "as is". To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties and are not liable for indirect damages or content loss caused by factors outside our reasonable control (including unsynced local data loss). Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
10. Governing law · changes · contact
Governing law and jurisdiction: to be determined (placeholder pending legal review). We may update these Terms; material changes will be announced in the service. Questions: contact us at support@thegeul.com.
This page is a pre-legal-review template. The governing-law placeholder will be finalized before commercial launch.
